Welcome to Boot Camp for New (and lightly-trained) Supervisors (BCNS)! I am so glad that you are here!
I developed this course from my experience working with new supervisors in several different industries. Becoming a supervisor is difficult. There are new expectations and new responsibilities. Relationships become more complicated. However, there are some fundamental leadership concepts that can be a great help.
The Introduction is a short video on behavior change because learning and mastering new behavior is the goal of professional development. After the introduction, there are six weeks of material. Each week has five days of information including a video each day. There is a written summary for every video in the course. If you print all 31, you will have a summary of the course and a reference manual that you can use as needed in the future.
After the Introduction, BCNS contains two main sections. In the first section we will talk about the essential qualities of a great supervisor. Research, and your own personal experience, tell us what qualities make a leader effective. In the second section I will give you practical tools and concepts that you can use to improve the quality of your relationships at work and the productivity and morale of your team or group.
Here are some logistics for navigating the course. The Introduction and Weeks 1-6 are lessons. Each day within the week is a called a topic. There is a quiz at the end of each lesson. It includes questions about the information in the videos for that week. You must get every answer correct to move on to the next lesson. If you don’t get them all right, hit the “View Questions” button. It will reveal the list of questions, which ones you got correct, and the right answers for the ones that you missed. You can take the quiz an unlimited number of times, but you must get them all right before you can move on.
After you pass the quiz, you will be taken to the first page of that lesson. Click “Mark Complete” at the bottom of the page and you will be taken to the next lesson. You will also need to click the “Mark Complete” button at the bottom of each page with a video once you have watched it. Once you pass the quiz for Week 6, you can print off a certificate of completion that proves you have learned all of the material in the course.
This course is a great foundation for new leaders, a good refresher for those who have some supervisory experience, and a good outline for mentors to use. Congratulations on investing in yourself, and also helping those who work for you, by learning how to create a productive and positive work environment.
I am honored to be a part of your professional and personal development journey!
